June 2008

Well it's that time again
Actually it's been quite a while since the last Newsletter - November 2007
Where does the time go???
I dunno
But there has been lots happening with Johnathon, so here goes:

Johnathon now has Official MySpace and Facebook pages (well you probably already know that if you are reading this from either of them).. heh...
I've been a bit slack with the Facebook site but hang in there...

And yes, these are Johnathon's personal and official sites, but are both moderated by me.  Johnathon just doesn't have the time to maintain them nor to reply personally to messages, but I do pass on ALL messages to him and he really does appreciate them.  So keep them coming. He also drops in and fiddles around from time to time with my words of encouragement ringing shrilly in his ears... which go something like "And don't touch or delete anything OR ELSE...!!!..."  So far so good... :)

We both want to thank everyone who has taken the time to send messages and comment on the Blogs and photos.  They are all fantastic, so keep them coming too.

OK - now to some news

Johnathon is currently filming a Sony TV movie called Murder in Sin City.  It's based on the true story of the death of Ted Binion and Johnathon plays the main character Rick Tabish who was set up and framed for Binion's murder.  This awesome story also stars Matthew Modine, Mena Suvari and Marcia Gay Harden.  It's being directed by the amazing Peter Medak and should appear on TV around September 2008.  Johnathon has done an amazing amount of research for this role (as he does for all his roles)...

Fear Itself
The first episode Eater premieres on NBC tonight.  This screenplay was penned by Johnathon and his business partner Richard Chizmar and is based on the book Eater by Peter Crowther.

ORGANIZM (Living Hell)
The DVD will be released June 10th 2008 and you can order a copy from Amazon.com.  It has DVD commentary with Johnathon, Erica Leerhsen and writer/director Richard Jefferies.  Johnathon said they had so much fun doing the commentary, so it should be a blast...

Little Chenier
This multi award winning film is being released on DVD July 8th 2008 and you can order a copy from Amazon.com

Prom Night
Was a huge success at the Box Office earning over $20M the first weekend.
The DVD is being released in Australia on 23rd August 2008.  They haven't announced a USA date as yet...... Strange but true...

Special features include:
  • Commentaries with Director Nelson McCormick, Brittany Snow, Johnathon Schaech
  • Never-Before-Seen Deleted Scenes
  • Alternate Ending
  • Blooper Reel

November 2007

Well it’s almost Christmas…. Can you believe it???
And time to decide which of Johnathon DVDs you want as presents from your family and friends…  And if they are really generous and REALLY love you, then they might buy you ALL of them…

There have been a lot of fans asking about purchasing the more obscure and rare films like:

Welcome to Woop Woop
As far as I know it was only released on DVD in Australia, and that was fairly recently, but it appears that copies are all sold out and as rare as hen’s teeth.  The distributor is not planning on releasing it again in the near future either, so keep an eye out on Ebay…..  You should be able to find VHS copies fairly easily though.

Sparrow
There ARE copies out there, just hard to find…Keep searching Ebay and Amazon.  This was Johnathon’s first film and a must for all fans.

At Home with the Webbers
This is only available on VHS, so keep looking for a copy.

Houdini
Available on VHS and there are also VCD copies floating around on Ebay

If you want  recommendations on the best DVD for you, then please visit the Discussion Forum and ask other fans…  They are the best people to have their brain’s picked…..
(As with all DVDs, make sure you check region codes before purchasing)

And of course don’t forget  Cemetery Dance Publications are offering exclusive signed copies of The Washingtonians DVD. They are signed by both screenwriters (Johnathon Schaech and Richard Chizmar) at no extra cost... To purchase these RARE SIGNED copies, please visit Cemetery Dance Publications and place your order.  You will not be able to purchase this signed DVD anywhere else.....

May 2007

Welcome to the Johnathon Schaech Newsletter for May 2007.
I hope everyone has had a fantastic month and watched at least one of Johnathon’s films.
Or at least one “shower scene”… for the perverts…!!!
Sorry I’m a bit late with this newsletter, but I have been waiting for confirmation on a few events.   PLUS work, life and death keep interfering…. Don’t you hate it when that happens??? …

Anyway, onto the good stuff……

May was an extremely busy month for Johnathon with filming commitments, DVD releases and Film Awards.  Below is a brief synopsis of events, but please visit the web site for more details.

Prom Night
Prom Night has just finished filming.  There is a lot of “positive” interest for this film with the die hard fans.  There are even web sites created especially for RPGs (Role Playing Games) where fans write their own scripts and scenarios that star Johnathon’s character, Richard Fenton.  Johnathon is getting a lot of good exposure from these RPGs as they create a lot of interest in him with the younger fans who may not have known about him before.

The Poker Club
The Poker Club started filming May 30, 2007 in New Jersey.  Johnathon not only co wrote the screenplay with his business partner Richard Chizmar, but is also starring as the main character Aaron Tyler.  His on screen wife is played by Lori Heuring who has previously appeared with Johnathon in 8MM2 and The Mummy an’ the Armadillo.  The film is based on the novel by Ed Gorman who is revered as a master by some of the best writers in the world.

Little Chenier
WOW…….  This film is the talk of the town at the moment.
It is absolutely flooring everyone at all the major Film Festivals for its stunning portrayal of the Cajun community.

There’s so much happening I’m actually thinking of renaming my Latest News page the Latest Little Chenier News page ….:)

The film is currently wowing the masses at festivals in London and Wales.
Last week it won the Best Feature Film at the Big Island Film Festival in Hawaii.

Please visit the link above for a full list of festival wins (rather than me retype them all cause there are only so many hours in the day) haha and links to the official Little Chenier web site.

I recently spoke with Jace Johnson (writer/director) about the success of Little Chenier at the Bayou Festival in May and he kindly offered the following:

The response was great.  It is such a hard dialect, and a culture people in Louisiana are very protective and particular about.  Especially in Lafayette, the epicenter of Cajun Country.  That it withstood their scrutiny was wonderful.  We weren't in competition there, we were doing it as a tribute to one of our Cajun actors, Mark Krasnoff, who was from the Lafayette area, and passed on in September 2006.

That Thing You Do
The release of the Director’s Cut has been fantastic and the extras on the 2 DVDs are very much appreciated by the fans.  There’s even interest in starting up a TTYD convention.  That’s how much of a cult following this film has…
I have added a link to a Podcast Johnathon did recently with 971freefm.  It’s quite long, but very informative and full of laughs…. well worth a listen.  Love the references to Harvey Keital and Rose McGowan…..  Bit of a chuckle….

Fans have been commenting on how laid back and funny Johnathon appears to be in interviews …..  And that’s because ……HE IS..!!!…..
A very grounded, all round nice fella.  Very refreshing for Hollywood….

I am continuingly updating the web site as events happen, so please keep visiting.
Don’t forget to visit the IMDB and vote for Johnathon’s films. As stated in past newsletters, the IMDB is an Industry Indicator and votes count.

All the best to everyone and stay safe
Cheers

Special thanks to Johnathon Schaech, Jace Johnson (Little Chenier) and Pepe Bojorquez (Sea of Dreams) for their continued support, which allows me to maintain an uptodate, reliable and accurate web site.  It is very much appreciated.

April 2007

G’day everyone.
I hope you all had a safe and happy Easter, got lots of chocolates and watched lots of Johnathon’s movies.  Or at least lots of replays of the shower scenes that we have all come to love so much …

If you are wondering why you haven’t seen or heard much of Johnathon this past month, it’s because he has been busy, busy, busy….. filming Prom Night for starters…

Prom Night
This big budget movie is currently being shot in LA.  It’s being directed by Nelson McCormick and was written by JS Cardone (The Forsaken & 8MM2).  It is due for release in February 2008.

Straight after filming wraps on Prom Night (around the end of May), Johnathon will start filming The Poker Club.

The Poker Club
This film is based on a novel by Ed Gorman and Johnathon will play one of the lead characters.  Johnathon and his business partner Richard Chizmar not only wrote the script but are producers on the film as well.  Their production company is Chesapeake Films

Sea of Dreams
Pepe Bojorquez and everyone at Success Films are working very very very hard to get this wonderful movie released into US theatres.  There will hopefully be some good news soon.  Pepe also sent me another gorgeous photo of Johnathon, Angelica Maria, her daughter and himself, which I have posted on the Sea of Dreams page.
I am SOOOOOOOOOO spoilt……. And LOVING it…!!!....:)

That Thing You Do
The Director’s Cut DVD is due for release 8th May 2007.
This film has a huge cult following and if you look up “The Wonders” on YouTube, you will find many tributes to this great flick and the songs within.  Some of them are quite funny…

General Stuff
Don’t forget that the IMDB is an industry indicator/swayer, so please take the time to vote for Johnathon and his films.
Fans are always requesting more photos in the Out and About section, but since Johnathon has been filming for the past five or so weeks, he hasn’t been in the spotlight very much.  Hopefully in between filming Prom Night and The Poker Club, he might actually have time to get out and about and flash that magical smile of his to the cameras.

All the best to everyone and stay safe

Cheers

March 2007

G'day all Johnathon fans

You will all be pleased to know that Johnathon hasn't dropped off the face of the earth, but is busy working on some new and exciting projects, which will be announced when they are finalised... YAY...!!!

Lately he has also been doing the rounds of the Hollywood Pre and Post Oscar parties.  I have posted a few photos and he is looking DAMN FINE...!!!

I was on the IMDB tonight and noticed that some of my ratings for Johnathon's films were missing, so I encourage everyone who votes on there to go check and vote again if need be.  The IMDB is an "Industry" indicator and it's very important that as fans, we support Johnathon there.

Angels Fall was a HUGE hit on LifetimeTV with over FIVE MILLION viewers watching.... That is awesome and great exposure for Johnathon.

Speaking of exposure (and don't we love it).........  Everyone and their dog/cat/budgie are talking about (and replaying) the "shower Scene" in Angels Fall...

While I admit it's pretty damn good, I personally prefer the shower scene in Welcome To Woop Woop...  Now THAT'S a great scene to be sure....

Check out the "Latest News" on Little Chenier.  It's not only receiving rave reviews, but it's being sort after by the biggest film festivals in the world.....  They are off to Wales(UK) in a few months to attend the Swansea Bay International Film Festival.

Hopefully there will be some GOOD news soon regarding the release of Sea of Dreams... Pepe Bojorquez and Co are working extremely hard to get this movie released mainstream..... There is certainly plenty of interest...

Did you check out Johnathon in The Washingtonians???....  BEST epsiode of Masters of Horror and a fan favourite... Johnathon also wrote the screenplay with his business partner Richard Chizmar.

I hope everyone is well and please keep on supporting Johnathon by visiting the site and commenting etc.  I know he appreciates it.

Cheers
